The licensed block (631 sq. km) is located in the central part of Sea of Azov.
Water depth: 9–13 m.
Relief of the seabed: plain-type.
Ports with rail terminals: Taganrog, Temruk, Primorsko-Ahtarsk, Yeisk.
Climate: continental and temperate with mild short winter and warm long summer seasons.
Ambient temperature: mean annual +10.6°C, maximum +43°C, minimum -5°C.
Winds: mean annual wind speeds 5.3–6.9 m/s; storm speeds: max. 20 m/s are notable in any season, above 20 m/s — from October through April.
Waves: maximum height in the open sea — 3 m.
Water temperature: mean annual +11.5°C, maximum +25°C, minimum is close to freezing point.
Ice: in severe winter seasons consolidated or very compacted, floating; in mild winter seasons most of the sea area is ice-free and only in February it is covered by floating ice with concentration of 7–8 points. Maximum ice thickness — 80–90 cm.
Currents: mostly wind-generated, speed of summarized currents reaches 3.5 km/hour.
Navigation: average — 290–300 days; maximum — 330–340 days; minimum — 270–280 days.
CJSC “Chernomorneftegaz” is a member of a group of companies-owner of ports Tuapse (the Black Sea) and Taganrog (the Sea of Azov) having wide-range fleet auxiliary (supply vessels, rescue and salvage ships, fire-fighting vessels, oil garbage disposal vessels etc.).
Ports Tuapse and Taganrog are the base port for development of oil-and-gas resources of the licensed block.
